A Romantic Getaway in Hocking Hills

Hocking Hills is Ohio's favorite place to get away as a couple, and the best version of the trip is mostly about privacy and slowing down. Here is how we would plan it.

Choose a truly private cabin

Look for a cabin that is yours alone, with nothing shared with other guests. Every Hugga cabin has its own sauna, cold plunge, hot tub, and fire pit, set on 42 acres. Pine Cabin is the most private of the four, deep in the forest.

Hike at sunrise

Cedar Falls is four minutes from the cabins and almost empty at dawn. Old Man's Cave is six. Go early, have the gorge to yourselves, and be back for coffee before the day crowds arrive.

Plan one special dinner

Guests can arrange a private in-cabin dinner with Columbus chef John Lawrence. If you would rather go out, Kindred Spirits at the Inn at Cedar Falls is five minutes away, and Le Petit Chevalier winery is 18 minutes away. Hugga guests can add a wine package from the winery when they book.

End the night outside

Sauna, cold plunge, hot tub, fire. On clear nights the hills are dark enough to see the Milky Way from the deck.

When to go

Midweek is the quiet secret: calmer trails and lower rates, and a single night is welcome Sunday through Thursday. Winter is the most romantic season of all, with frozen waterfalls and the sauna at its best.

Four private cabins, six minutes from Old Man's Cave.

Private sauna, cold plunge, and hot tub at every cabin. Pets welcome.
