Privacy Policy

We believe in being clear and honest about the data we collect and why. This page explains our practices in plain language.

Hugga Retreats is a small, independent property. We collect limited information to run the website smoothly, fulfill bookings, and genuinely improve the experience for future guests. We do not sell data. We do not build detailed personal profiles for advertising.

We use two main systems for understanding visitors: standard web analytics and a lightweight “user learning” system focused on real interactions and questions. Both exist to help us design better cabins, a clearer website, and a more helpful experience.

Website Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how people find and use our site. This includes which pages are visited, how long visitors stay, which devices and browsers are common, where traffic comes from (search, social, direct), and basic conversion steps such as viewing cabins or starting a booking.

Data collected includes:

  • Page views and navigation paths
  • Session duration and approximate location (city/region level)
  • Device type, browser, and operating system (aggregated)
  • Referral sources and campaign information (e.g. UTM parameters)
  • Events such as “begin checkout” or cabin page views (no personal details)

GA4 uses cookies and similar technologies. Google processes this data according to their own privacy policy. We configure GA4 primarily for measurement and improvement rather than personalized advertising features. You can learn more in Google’s privacy documentation.

This is the standard analytics most websites use. It helps us know what’s working and what needs attention.

User Learning System

In addition to GA4, we run a separate, privacy-first system designed to help us learn directly from how people actually use the site and what they ask our AI concierge. This powers continuous, honest improvement.

What this system records:

  • Clicks and interactions — which buttons, cabin cards, pricing sections, or links people engage with.
  • Mouse movements — heavily throttled and sampled only to understand attention and hesitation patterns on key areas (never full tracking or recordings).
  • Conversations with the Hugga AI agent — questions you ask the text or voice concierge, along with the responses and any availability or pricing information provided during the chat. These are stored so we can see what real guests want to know.

Why we collect this:

The goal is simple and practical: make the cabins better, make the website clearer, and make the overall guest experience warmer and more intuitive. Examples of insights we look for include:

  • Which cabin features generate the most questions (sauna, cold plunge, trails…)
  • Where visitors hesitate during the booking flow
  • Common points of confusion or delight on the site
  • Recurring themes in questions to the AI concierge

Important: Conversations with the Hugga Concierge remain fully functional and helpful even if you opt out of the learning system. We simply won’t log or use that session’s questions to improve the AI or our understanding of guest needs.

How Long Data Is Kept & How It’s Used

Raw events from the user learning system (clicks, mouse movements, and full conversation logs) are retained for a maximum of 60 days. After that window they are deleted or irreversibly aggregated.

Aggregated, anonymized insights and trends (for example, “42% of AI questions in spring were about group stays”) may be kept longer to understand seasonal patterns and long-term improvements.

Google Analytics data follows Google’s standard retention settings for the property (typically 14 or 26 months for reporting). We do not export or combine this data with the learning system in identifiable ways.

All of this data is used exclusively for internal improvement of the Hugga experience. It is never sold, never shared with third parties for their own purposes, and never used for individual targeting or advertising.

How to Opt Out

User Learning System (clicks, movements, AI conversations)

You can opt out of this system at any time. Doing so stops future collection of behavioral events and AI conversation logs from your browser. The AI concierge will continue to work normally — we just won’t learn from those interactions.

Your current preference (this browser)

This sets a local preference in your browser only. It does not affect existing data already collected or other devices/browsers.

Google Analytics

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Many privacy browsers and extensions also block GA. We respect the Do Not Track header where technically feasible.

Opting out of either system never removes core website functionality or prevents you from using the concierge, booking, or any part of the Hugga experience.

Your Rights & Data Requests

If you would like to know what information we may hold about you (for example, from a past conversation with the concierge or a booking), or if you wish to request access, correction, or deletion of personal data, please contact us.

We will respond to reasonable requests in good faith and within a practical timeframe, consistent with our small-team operations and applicable law.
